One of the best places to find out who the good builders are in the area is to talk to the building supply companies. In smaller towns, they know. So when it comes to reffering a builder who is focused on doing a quality, truly custom job at a fair price, Ken Shipman and his team at KWS Builders is the first general contractor the building supply companies recommended and now the only builder I'd recommend too.

Ken did an excellent job coming up with creative solutions and went way above and beyond to ensure we were happy.  Some of the core competencies KWS brings to their customers is there impeccable cabinetry, painting and texture work. These guys might possible be the best in the business.  More importantly, Ken was genuinely focused on doing right by us both before, during, and after the project was completed. Everyday I worked with Ken, he lived out his Christian values of "do unto others as you would have them do unto you". Buillding a home with KWS Builders was both a rewarding and enjoyable experience: hopefully someday we'll get a chance to do it again.

Before we decided who was to build our home in Livingston, we visited with Corky Evans, our personal banker as well as Claude Thomas, the owner of Thomas Supply. We wanted to know two things-- who would they suggest and who paid their bills on time. We received a list of 5 builders, interviewed each one, and asked for bids. Ken Shipman quickly rose to the top of our list when he turned in his professional bid ahead of schedule along with suggestions for improving our plans. After reviewing all five bids, we sat down and visited Ken about our needs and his suggestions and quickly closed on our construction loan two weeks after Hurricane Ike roared into town. We visited our job-site daily and were impressed with the quality of work and the fast paced schedule. Ken was only a phone call away if we had any questions and always returned our calls promptly. He was extremely knowledgeable in all phases of the building project -- if something wasn't right -- he made it right. Our house plans became a home when we hired Ken Shipman and we are now proud to call him our friend.

After having contracted a home ourselves a few years back we knew we had no interest in taking on that task once again. We decided to get bids from a few different builders that we had done at least some business for in the past.  Not really knowing Ken all that well we were given numerous recommendations from local friends saying that he was definitely the man to go with and now we understand why.  KWS Builders was not only very reasonable but I felt that I could trust Ken and get along with him throughout the process.

Ken worked hand in hand with me and my wife all the way from architectural details to the paint on the walls. We made many changes to the original plans dealing with stone design on the front of the house, boxed beams in the ceilings of the kitchen and living room, and adding a "man cave" outside. Not only did he not gouge us on the prices of the change orders but he still finished the house within the time frame he had given before we started the job.

All of the subcontractors that KWS had on the job were professionals and took care of their business accordingly. We have no complaints to give and look forward to doing business with KWS Builders again in the future.
